Shawn Harris, a retired Marine sergeant and Army Brigadier General, and Northwest Georgia cattle farmer, announced Tuesday his intention to run for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District seat, regardless of incumbent Marjorie Taylor Greene’s plans for the 2026 election. Harris, who previously challenged Greene in 2024, significantly outperforming the Presidential Democratic candidate in the district by 12%, aims to bring a more collaborative approach to Washington D.C. “When I go to DC, the first thing I would do is make sure that I’m going to reach across the aisle with Democrats and Republicans to get to yes,” Harris stated in his announcement. He contrasted his approach with that of the current representative, criticizing the partisan gridlock and lack of “real adults in the room.” Harris emphasized his commitment to finding common ground. “Because right now what’s actually happening in DC is there’s no real adults in the room and the individual that I’m running against is one of the main ones that creates this chaos. So how do I get to yes? It’s being an adult in the room, reaching across the aisle, and saying ‘where can we agree?’ and let’s get that passed and move forward.” Harris’ announcement sets the stage for a potentially contentious race, pitting his promise of bi-partisan cooperation against Greene’s well-established conservative platform. The election is expected to draw significant attention as a key indicator of the political climate in Northwest Georgia.
