A hat flying off a passenger in a vehicle caused Lafayette man to run into a tree Monday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol report that was released yesterday, 26-year-old Gregory Drew Whitaker was driving down the driveway of 171 Long Branch Road when the hat of a passenger flew off and all of the vehicle occupants looked to see where the hat was going. Whitaker apparently took his sight off the driveway in which he was driving and the vehicle ended up in the gravel shoulder. Unable to regain control of the vehicle, it traveled 47 feet before hitting a tree.

The driver and three passengers were transported to Redmond Hospital by Redmond EMS. The driver, Whitaker, as well as passengers, 19 year old Joshua Whitaker, 22-year-old Brittany Pressnell, and 21-year-old Christian Pressnell, all of LaFayette, received non-fatal injuries to their lower extremities.
