The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) announced the transfer of the warden at Hays State Prison in Chattooga County and the appointment of a new warden for the prison located in Trion.
The transfer and appointment were effective last Saturday, July 1st.
GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver reassigned Shawn Emmons, who was warden at Hays State Prison to warden at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison. Emmons will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 2,700 close security male offenders at the facility, including the diagnostic process.
GDC Commissioner Oliver announced that Joshua Jones took over at Hays State Prison last week.
Jones will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 1,076 male offenders.
“Jones has been a dedicated employee while working his way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident that his leadership and correctional knowledge will benefit the staff and offenders at Hays State Prison.”
Jones began his career with the department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Walker State Prison and also assisted as a correctional officer at the Special Management Unit. In 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant at Hays. During his tenure at Hays State Prison, he was promoted through the ranks of Lieutenant, Unit Manager, and Deputy Warden of Security.
His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, Deputy Warden of Security Academy, and Warden’s Pre Command.
