Trucks hauling logs and agricultural products will be able to pull heavier loads in the near future after a bill to increase weight limits by 10% was passed by the Georgia Senate.  The move for heavier weight limits had supporters in the agricultural and logging industries in Georgia, and also the support of State Senator Colton Moore who represents Chattooga, Walker, Catoosa and Dade Counties in the senate.  However, the bill that was passed was scaled back from a version that would have allowed even heavier loads.  With the new legislation, trucks pulling logs and agricultural products from the farm will have a weight limit of 88,000 pounds – 8,000 pounds more than is allowed now.  Many counties and municipalities in Georgia opposed the heavier weight limits, saying the cost of upkeep on local roads would increase.  The bill now heads to Governor Brian Kemp to be signed into law.
