Remember the IRS Scam we told you about a few days ago?

Well, it's still going on.

A report was filed last Friday by a Menlo resident stating that she had received several calls from someone claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service, telling her to call a number

When the woman called that number (1-202-754-8440) – a man answered and told her that she owed the IRS $2,850; adding that if she didn't pay up, they would have a warrant issued for her arrest. When the woman said she'd speak with an attorney, the caller became irate – telling her she would lose $30,000, and that they (the IRS) would seize everything that she owned.

Fortunately, the woman did NOT pay any money to the scammers and did not provide them with any personal private information.

We've said it before and we'll say it again. These people cannot have you arrested because they're not with the IRS; this is just a scam.

They use the IRS name because it scares pretty much everyone – honest, and not so honest – and that gives the con artists power over some people who may not know better.

If you actually have a problem with the IRS, they will contact you by registered mail – never over the phone.
