For the past several days, the National Weather Service has been issuing “high fire danger” advisories for Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama – and for good reason. Low humidity and wind can combine to make for very dangerous conditions for outdoor fires to get out of control. That’s what happened in Cherokee County, Alabama on Monday.
According to reports, fire departments responded to the scene of what began as a report of a hay field being on fire at 1906 County Road 1 in Cherokee County.
The call first went out at around 11:00am and then quickly escalated to a situation in which a tractor, a trailer and a truck were ablaze – shortly thereafter, it was reported that several pieces of farm equipment – and a number of large, round hay bales were on fire as well with the fire becoming dangerously close to a wooded area beside the hay field.
With dry conditions over the past few days, burning outdoors is not advised.
