High school 4-H members travel to State Capitol

On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 4-H youth, leaders, and volunteers traveled to Atlanta for 4-H Day at the Capitol. 4-H Day at the Capitol provides an opportunity for 4-H’ers to visit the State Capitol, meet with their representatives and witness the legislative process in action. State 4-H President, Ben Lord (Ben Hill County) addressed both the House and Senate. He thanked them for their support of 4-H over the past year, and for pledging to continue to work together to make Georgia a great place to live. Georgia 4-H appreciates their hosts for the day Representative Rick Jasperse, Representative Richard Smith and Senator Ellis Black.
In all, over 400 youth attended. Outstanding 4-Hers from across the state were recognized in resolutions from both the House and Senate. The day included speeches from Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, Ms. Tess Hammock, former 4-Her and Miss Warner Robins 2015, and Mrs. Anne Sapp of the Georgia 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees.
Chattooga County was represented by thirteen high school 4-H students. Representing Chattooga High School was: Hamp Thomas, Logan Money, Tyler Hunt, Travan Neal, Meagan Perry, Cam Anderson and Chandler Godfrey. From Trion High School was: Faith Coalson, Bronson Champion, Kaitlyn Conner, Kendra Conner, Jacob Peterson and Taylor Ozment.
