The winter meeting of the Chattooga County Historical Society will be this Sunday at 2 PM at the Depot. The topic will be “Chattooga County in 1860” presented by local historian Jim Day.

Jim has researched the 1860 county census and will give an overview of the small town of Summerville and the 3 valleys in the county in which most of the population worked and lived: Dirt Town Valley, Chattooga Valley, and Broomtown Valley. The everyday life, politics, occupations and religion of the these early Chattoogans will make for a most interesting program.

The meeting is free and open to all with an interest in Chattooga County’s history. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is encouraged to join the historical society and they are always looking for new members to help promote and preserve our history.
