A routine traffic stop on Highway 114 North led to the arrest of Hilario Lopez Duarte, a 38-year-old male from Honduras, for driving without a license. The incident occurred when a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a 2009 GMC Sierra pickup truck with a dim tag light, which was insufficient for visibility. As the deputy approached the vehicle in the Subway parking lot at the intersection of Rome Boulevard and Highway 48, he requested the driver’s license. Duarte responded that he did not possess a valid license and instead provided an identification card issued in Honduras. Given the circumstances, the deputy instructed Duarte to exit the vehicle and arranged for the passenger to call for someone to retrieve the truck. While waiting for a licensed driver to arrive, Duarte was placed under arrest for the driving offense. He was subsequently transported to the local jail, where a citation was issued, and he received a warning regarding the tag light violation. During the booking process, a background check revealed an outstanding warrant from Hamilton County, Tennessee,  prompting authorities to place a hold for extradition.
