Living in a rural area like Chattooga County means that most area residents don’t have to deal with a lot of traffic congestion during their commutes to and from work, but most Chattooga County residents do have to travel further than the average worker in the United States.
According to the U.S. Census bureau, there are just under 10,000 workers in Chattooga County. The average drive-time for a commuter to and from work in Chattooga County is just under 27 minutes. That’s just above the national average, but a little below the state average in Georgia of 28 minutes. But the state average is a bit skewed because of the amount of congestion and traffic in Atlanta, where workers my live relatively close to their jobs – but their drive times are longer.
The average Chattooga County commuter travels just over 66 miles each day to get back and forth to work; that number is over four times the national average of a 16 mile round trip for workers and the Georgia average of 19 miles per work.
