Summerville Police arrested a husband and wife on drug charges after the man was stopped for failing to maintain a single lane.

According to a report released this week, an officer observed a vehicle driven by seventy-one-year-old John Douglas Reid of a Scoggins Street address that was weaving in and out of his lane of traffic.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and spoke with Reid who said that he was coming home from a friend’s house.  The officer asked Reid if he had anything illegal on his person or in his vehicle and asked for a consent to search.  Reid granted the consent to search and the officer found several different prescription drugs inside the vehicle.  Reid said that the pills belonged to his wife but he had no idea what all kinds of medication she took.

The officer went to the Reid home and spoke with sixty-six-year-old Teresa Diane Reid.  Mrs. Reid allowed officers to search the house where they found several different pills that were not prescribed to John or Teresa Reid.  During their conversation with Mrs. Reid, she admitted to officers that her husband buys her pain pills.

John Reid was charged with failure to maintain a single lane, driving on the wrong side of the road and drug possession charges.  Teresa Reid was charged with possession of barbiturates and drugs to be kept in original container.
