The City of Summerville Fire Department has announced a planned fire hydrant flushing operation set for Monday, December 22, 2025, running from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The work will focus on southeast Summerville, including the Highway 27 area, Lake Wanda Reita Road, and the Washington Avenue area.

During this maintenance period, fire department personnel will perform essential tasks on each hydrant, including lubrication, flushing, and function checks. This routine work is critical to ensure hydrants remain fully operational and ready for emergency use.

Residents in the affected areas may notice brief periods of water discoloration while flushing is underway. City officials stress this is normal and safe. If discoloration occurs, residents are advised to run their tap for a few minutes, and the water should clear quickly.

City officials say the hydrant flushing program plays an important role in maintaining water quality and ensuring public safety throughout the community. The City of Summerville thanks residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding as crews complete this necessary work.
