Residents in West Summerville will see fire crews out across the area today as the City of Summerville Fire Department conducts scheduled hydrant maintenance.

Hydrant flushing is set for Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The work will focus on West Summerville, including the Highway 48 area, East Peach Orchard Road area, and the Fish Hatchery Road area.

During this time, fire department personnel will perform essential maintenance on hydrants across the city, including lubrication, flushing, and function checks. Officials say this routine work helps ensure hydrants remain in proper working order and keeps the community protected and prepared.

Residents may notice brief periods of water discoloration while crews are flushing the system. City officials stress that this is completely normal and safe. If discoloration occurs, simply run your tap for a few minutes and the water should clear quickly.

The City of Summerville appreciates the public’s cooperation as crews complete this important maintenance.
