An inmate at the Floyd County Jail is facing serious new felony charges following an assault on a fellow detainee that allegedly occurred earlier this week, according to official jail records.

Samantha Ann Harvey, 45, was formally charged after she allegedly head-butted another inmate during an incident on Wednesday.

Harvey is now facing two new counts stemming from the altercation: Acts of Violence in a Penal Institution and Simple Battery. The charge of Acts of Violence in a Penal Institution is classified as a felony in Georgia and applies specifically to acts of aggression committed while confined.

The details regarding the circumstances leading up to the head-butting incident were not immediately released by jail authorities.

Harvey has been in the Floyd County facility for several months. She was initially booked on August 12, prior to the alleged assault.

Her original arrest charges included Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and a Probation Violation.

The addition of the new charges means Harvey, who remains detained, faces further legal proceedings related to her conduct while incarcerated. She is currently being held without bond on the new acts of violence charge.
