The name of an inmate who died over the weekend in the Cherokee County Detention Center has now been released. According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 36 year old Aaron Todd Cromer of Centre, apparently committed suicide in a holding cell at the jail Saturday evening. Sheriff Shaver, stated that inmates are routinely placed inside a holding cell in the booking area until the booking process has been completed  officers discovered Cromers body in the holding cell at approximately 6:00 that evening. Cromer had been booked into the jail on two theft charges that afternoon, at around 4:00. He had been arrested after Leesburg Police responded to a burglary call  and witnessed Cromer running away from the residence. Sheriff Shaver has asked the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to handle an investigation into the matter  adding that it is normal procedure, to have an outside agency come-in, to investigate any such incidents occurring at the jail or involving officers at the facility.
