Two people are dead following an early morning house fire in the Ridgeway Community on Sunday. Emergency crews were dispatched after Chattooga 911 received a call at 4:09 AM, reporting the blaze in the 1200 block of Ridgeway Drive.

Numerous local fire departments, along with other emergency personnel, converged on the scene. Responding agencies included the Trion Fire Department, Summerville Fire Department, and Hayes Correctional Fire Department. Atrium-Floyd EMS was also on site to provide medical support.

Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney confirmed the fatalities, stating that the bodies of the two deceased individuals have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab for positive identification.

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department also responded, and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.

The fire occurred in the 1200 block of Ridgeway Drive, located near the intersection of Cooper Pit Road.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and the results of the GBI’s identification process. The investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office is ongoing.
