The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) continues to investigate a fatal crash that claimed the lives of three people along I-75 in Catoosa County during the early morning hours on Sunday, June 5.

According to the GSP, a red SUV carrying four people flipped over and rolled several times at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday, resulting in three of the four passengers being thrown from the vehicle.

Due to the swiftness of the accident, oncoming traffic behind the SUV had a hard time avoiding the vehicle, debris and persons ejected during the accident.

One of the bodies thrown from the vehicle during the crash was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer, while another vehicle struck a car battery.

Neither of the other drivers was injured, and the operator of the tractor-trailer will not face any charges for running over the victim ejected from the SUV.

It is unknown at this time whether the victim died before or after being struck by the tractor-trailer.
