An inmate at the Cherokee County Alabama Detention Center was pronounced dead on Saturday from apparent suicide.

Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford said that the inmate was rushed from the detention center to Floyd/Cherokee Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

No additional details about the incident are being released.

Summerford said that as part of a regional agreement, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office with the investigation.

The inmate has not been identified at this time.
