Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Bryant Dodd has resigned from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office effective today (April 27) and will take a position with the Summerville Police Department. Bryant has been with the Sheriff’s Department for just more than a year.
Bryant had previously worked for 8 1/2 years for the Summerville Police Department and then lost his job when the department was downsized which brought him to the Sheriff’s Department. According to Bryant he was told that he would be rehired when a position became available and it now has. Bryant says he isn’t crazy about leaving the Sheriff’s Department but with 8 1/2 years with the city he only need 1 1/2 more with the department to become vested in his retirement. He said it was a move he couldn’t pass up.
Sheriff John Everett says he hates to lose Dodd, but understands the reasoning and doesn’t blame him. Dodd will be replaced by deputy Matt Hayes. Hayes began with the department in 2006 as a jailer. He said he is looking forward to his new position which he begins on Monday.
