More than $10,000 was raised to provide funding and financial aid to Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students during the 17th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament held at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome on Thursday, Oct. 22.

The tournament was sponsored by the Foundation at GNTC. James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.

Teams that participated included: Bojo Team, Five Star Food Service, Fox Systems, Georgia Power, Gordon Hospital, GNTC Team, The HON Company, IVC, King Team, Kuglar Consulting, LeGrande Team, Lowes Distribution Group, Miura America, Mount Vernon Mills, Powell Team #1, Powell Team #2, Rehab Techniques, Rome Coca Cola, Toles, Temple, & Wright, and United Community Bank

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into two flights and prizes were awarded to the first place teams in each flight.

1st Flight – 1st Place

Bojo Team, consisting of: Tom Bojo, Tom Wilson, Tyler Blackwell, and Heath Hooper.

2nd Flight – 1st Place

LeGrande Team, consisting of: Jay LeGrande, Charles Pinkard, Bobby Hitchcock, and Chuck Wright.

Stephen Casey won “Closest to the Pin” and Blake Cescutti won “Longest Drive.”

The “Thanks for Coming Team Award,” awarded to the team with the highest round of the day, went to the Toles, Temple, & Wright Team, consisting of Craig McDaniel, Lionell Earwood, David McBurnett, and Brad Cooper.

Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family: Clayborn Bradfield, Blake Cescutti, Edmund Cescutti, Ray Hays, Tiff Magruder, Charlie Powell, Jim Powell, and Tripp Powell.

The Foundation at GNTC also assists with purchasing equipment for programs, providing training for faculty and staff, and further marketing and public relations efforts.
