A post shared around Northwest Georgia on social media about a foreign object being found in trick-or-treat candy in LaFayette has proved to be hoax, according to the LaFayette Police Department.

WQCH in LaFayette reported on Wednesday, after investigating reports of tampered-with trick-or-treat candy, LaFayette Police are satisfied that the story was fabricated. A juvenile and parents were brought in for questioning and the child admitted fabricating and falsely reporting that a foreign object was found in trick or treat candy received, according to detectives investigating.

Appropriate criminal charges are pending consultation with the district attorney’s office.
