Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed several bills into law that he says ensures fairness in school sports, and will enhance student and teacher safety, and improve education quality in Georgia. Governor Kemp emphasized the importance of keeping children safe and providing them with a fair environment in schools, stating that girls should not have to share facilities with boys.
At the signing event, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones highlighted the importance of a secure school environment for children’s rights and academic performance, specifically praising Senate Bill 1, which protects women’s sports. Speaker Jon Burns reaffirmed the commitment to children’s safety and success, noting the House’s focus on securing classrooms and increasing mental healthcare access.
The bills signed include SB 1, prohibiting opposite-gender competition in sports; HB 81, establishing an interstate compact for school psychologists; and HB 307, enhancing dyslexia screening. Additional legislation provides for employee leave for organ donation and incentivizes charter school approvals. HB 268 focuses on school safety measures like updated mapping and crisis response systems.
Furthermore, Governor Kemp signed bills aimed at strengthening the state’s workforce pipeline, including reforming the Dual Achievement Program and establishing a workforce high school diploma program. These measures are designed to connect Georgians with necessary skills and career opportunities.
