Summerville Police responded to a call on Sunday about some keys that were stolen from a vehicle at a local repair shop. The responding officer spoke with a representative from Hayes Muffler Shop on Commerce Street who said that someone had taken the keys out of a 2020 Ford Escape that was parked on his lot. Video footage from the store’s cameras showed that a black male had entered the automobile shortly after 10 AM that morning and took the keys. The responding officer said that police should be able to identify the suspect from the surveillance video.

A short time later police identified the suspect at Kevin Boykin.  Police went to an abandoned home on Highland Avenue.  When an officer knocked on the door, the door fell in.  Inside police found a jacket with the keys to the Ford Escape inside the pocket.  The jacket was identified as the one the suspect was wearing when he entered the automobile.  Officers were unable to locate the suspect at the time, but returned the keys to the muffler repair shop.

The suspect, identified as fifty-year-old Kevin Boykin, was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County jail on Monday.
