A LaFayette man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Friday on multiple charges including an outstanding warrant from Tennessee.

Floyd County Police say that forty-year-old James Tavares Mims returned to a church on DeSoto Avenue after being banned from the property.  Police say that Mims stole ten gallons of water from the property’s water system and was found with a small bag of suspected methamphetamine.

As he was being placed in the patrol vehicle, Mims grabbed the bag, threw it on the ground and stomped it. Mims was charged with criminal trespass, theft by taking, possession of meth, tampering with evidence, giving a false name or date of birth, and obstruction of officers.

He was also charged with being a fugitive from justice for having a valid warrant in Hamilton County, Tennessee.
