Three family members were found dead at their home in LaFayette this week.  Officials in LaFayette are hoping that an autopsy from the GBI Crime Lab will give some answers as to what may have happened.  Meanwhile, Mason Funeral Home in Summerville will have the funeral arrangements for the three family members. 

LaFayette Public Safety Director Stacey Meeks said that the three bodies found at a North Chattanooga Street home Sunday, will be transported to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.  Meeks said they are on a waiting list and transport should take place in about a week.

The initial indications are that all three victims were suffering from a COVID infection.  In addition, Meeks said there is some evidence that carbon monoxide poisoning may have been a contributing factor.  The small home was heavily sealed with plastic against the winter weather and the family used a kerosene heater.

“The house was sealed air-tight with heavy plastic”, Meeks said.  “Some of the family members also had health conditions that may have contributed”.

As for the man found outside the home, Meeks said they believe he may have gone outside the start the truck… however, the keys were still inside the home.  They think he slipped and fell because the truck was parked on an incline.

The deceased were identified as Wanda Lee Sweet, 55… Thomas Lebron Sweet, 33… and Larry Lebron Sweet, 57.

Chief Meeks said he believes the autopsies will provide some answers in the tragic multiple-death investigation.
