One of north Georgia’s favorite past times has once again come to fruition. Lake Winnepesaukah opened up for season number 85 on Friday to a healthy crowd of people eager to soak up the beautiful weather, and ex-perience a trademark of the community.
“Families have been coming here for years, and it’s great to have this kind of turnout for the beginning of the season, said Talley Green, public relations director. “We have a couple of new rides, some new games, and we’re glad the season is here so that people can come out and enjoy themselves.”
Green said that the park added “The Sea Warrior,” which is a ride for the whole family, as well as the addition of the “Silly Saucers,” a children’s ride that spins around like a mini-orbiter, or tea cup ride.
“We’re excited about being able to offer something new,” Green said.
In addition to more rides and games, the park will continue to offer numerous musical performers throughout the season as part of the Jukebox Junction concert series, with acts such as Chris Young and Jason Michael Carroll.
Another newcomer to the Lake Winnie entertainment department is the arrival of the “Gym-Masters” team from Southern Adventist University. The gymnastics/tumbling group will perform routines every hour on the hour be-tween 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. beginning on opening day in the center court in front of the “Alpine Way.”
