Today marks the 40th anniversary of Chattooga County's Clerk of Court being in office. Lann Cordle has served in position longer than just about any elected official in the state. Cordle first came about the position in a very unusual way at the age of 21. His father, who was clerk of court 40 years ago, died between the primary and the general election. Back then, a political party could nominate someone to put on the ballot. The Democratic Party selected Cordle, who was elected and has run unopposed ever since. Cordle says the job has changed a good bit since he first took office. A celebration was held for him yesterday since he had to be in court today.
