This past Thursday evening was the last meeting for Chattooga County Board of Education Vice-Chairman Brad Hayes and board member Spencer Hogg.  Both men chose not to run for re-election and will be leaving their posts at the end of the year.

Hayes was first elected to the seat representing the Pennville area in 2018.   He defeated Democrat Alma Lewis in that race.  Hayes was one of three Republicans elected that year.  He will be replaced by Republican Tiffany Lawrence in January.  Mr. Hayes told WZQZ News when he decided not to seek reelection, “As a lifelong citizen of Chattooga County, it was my desire to serve as a representative of the community on our school board. The support I received was overwhelming, and I thank all that elected me in November 2018”.

Spencer Hogg was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Julia Houston who resigned abruptly from her seat on the Board of Education in May of 2021.  Hogg chose not to run for reelection and is being replaced by Republican Bonnie Fletcher to represent the Lyerly area on the board.

Another new face in January will be Lori Brady, who defeated Democrat Lynn Hall in the November election.  Ms. Brady will be representing the Menlo area on the board.  Mr. Hall was selected to fill the unexpired term of Sammy Ballard when Mr. Ballard passed away.

January 1, 2023 will mark the first time that the board of education has a majority of female members.
