Have kids headed back to school in a couple of weeks?  This weekend you can cross the border to Alabama and save sales tax on back-to-school essentials.

While the Georgia General Assembly discontinued the back-to-school sales tax holiday several years ago, there are a total of seventeen states that are hosting the tax-free weekends for shoppers getting their students ready for the upcoming school year and Alabama is one of them.

The sales tax holiday started on Friday of last week and ends today.

Some of the items you can save sales tax on by shopping in Alabama today include:

School supplies, school art supplies and school instructional materials under $50 per item.

Examples include book bags, notebooks, calculators and lunch boxes.

Clothing under $100 per item.

Examples include dresses, jackets, school uniforms and shoes.

Computers, computer software, and school computer supplies under $750 per item.

Examples include laptops, monitors, keyboards, printers and software.
