City of Summerville Police Officers issued a leash law citation after a small child was bitten by a neighbors dog earlier this week.

On Monday, Officers responded to an Allen Street address regarding the dog bite. Officers spoke with Brittany Silvers, who was holding her 4 year old child. The child had a bite mark on the left arm and on the back. Brittany Silvers stated that her child was playing in the yard, when the large, white dog entered the yard and bite her. Silvers stated that the dog belonged to the neighbor, and Officers went over to speak with the neighbor, Stephen Matthew Smith. Smith was known to the Officers due to prior issued with a different dog of Smiths’.

At first Smith said the dog did belong to him, then he changed his mind and said no, finally Smith admitted that the dog belonged to him. Animal Control arrived and took possession of the dog, while EMS checked the 4 year old child out. Smith was cited with a leash law violation.
