Could the Town of Leesburg, in Cherokee County, Alabama, become the third municipality in the county to legalize the sale of alcohol?
Voters within the town limits will have the final say on June 14th when the town holds its Alcohol Referendum Election. A petition had been circulated by citizens several weeks ago, after it was learned that the town had surpassed the 1,000 mark in population according to the latest Census.
The proper number of registered voters from the previous general election later signed the petition – to hold an Alcohol Referendum and the Mayor & Town Council had no choice under state law but to set a date for a vote.
Following the June 14th election officials will meet Friday, June 24th at 12:00 noon to officially canvass the results.
