They share a lot in common and they both want to be the sheriff of Walker County .  Incumbent Sheriff Steve Wilson and former Georgia State Trooper Commander Don Stultz are both natives of LaFayette.  They both attended grade school and high school in Walker County.  Both have spent their adult lives with careers in law enforcement and they have known each other pretty much their whole lives.  Sheriff Wilson is sixty-six-years old and former Commander Stultz is sixty-five.

Sheriff Steve Wilson announced his intention to seek his eighth term in office late last year.  Wilson was first elected Walker County Sheriff in 1996.  He started his public service as a Democrat and switched political parties in 2011.  Sheriff Wilson has consistently garnered over 70% of the vote in every election over the past twenty-eight years.

Stultz told the Chattanooga Times-Free Press that he has “wanted to be sheriff for about 30 years and wants to bring his extensive training experience and willingness to lead from the front to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office”.

The two men sat down last year and agreed to run “clean campaigns” and say there will be no public debate between the two before the Republican Primary in May.
