A man from Lindale and a woman from Trion were arrested and jailed in Floyd County on Tuesday, each facing two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals stemming from the severe neglect of two dogs.

Jayce Alan Lee Atkins, 18, of Lindale, and Amelia Rose Boston, 18, of Trion, were booked into the Floyd County Jail following an investigation into conditions at an apartment on Callier Springs Road.

According to Floyd County Jail records and the official arrest warrants, Atkins and Boston are charged with failing to provide the two dogs under their care with adequate food and water.

The warrants specify that the neglect resulted in serious harm to the animals. Authorities who located the dogs found them both to be in a “severely emaciated condition.”

The charges filed reflect the gravity of the animals’ distress. Each suspect was charged with two separate felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals—one count corresponding to each dog found neglected.

Aggravated cruelty to animals is a felony offense in Georgia, typically involving maliciously causing death, physical pain, or suffering to an animal, or depriving an animal of necessary sustenance, which results in serious injury or death.
