The City of Summerville needs employees in several different departments.  Many municipalities in the area are facing the same situation.  As wages rise and unemployment is at an all-time low, many small towns across the state and the nation are having a difficult time attracting enough workers.

The tight market, where workers have more leverage to move around and employers are doing everything they can to attract workers is affecting local governments ability to retain and attract workers.  The Town of Trion and the Chattooga County Water District and the Chattooga County School District have been among the local government entities trying to attract new employees over the past several months.

The U.S. Labor Department reports that over 4 million workers have changed jobs in recent weeks.  Many companies are offering incentives for new employees along with large sign-on bonuses.

Currently, the City of Summerville is seeking employees for clerical jobs at City Hall, officers in the police department and water and sewer maintenance workers.
