A local Chattooga County man was arrested last week following an altercation with Summerville Police Officers.
A local resident was arrested last week after for pedestrian under the influence and Obstruction of Law Enforcement office by violence. On March 24th, while responding to a different call, Officers heard a person yelling out loud several streets over. An investigation into the sound lead to Officers encountering Jimmy Juan Adams, who was known to Officers due to some prior incidents. Adams appeared to be under the influence at a rather early hour and a call had came in about Adams knocking on doors asking for drugs in the area.
After Officers placed Adams in handcuffs, he became agitated and began to yell at Officers and kick at the Officers, then threw himself on the ground claiming abuse. Officers attempted to let Adams calm down, but after Adams managed to slip one hand out of the handcuffs, and became even more combative, Officers were forced to use pepper spray on him. During the scuffle, one Officer was injured and had to visit Urgent Care for a possible broken thumb.
After being transported to the Chattooga County jail, Adams was still combative and in a delirious state. It took approximately 8 hours before Adams calmed down. Adams was booked into the Chattooga County jail and was charged with pedestrian under the influence and Obstruction of Law Enforcement. Adams already had a prior felony conviction of Obstruction of Law Enforcement in 2019.
