The Chattooga County School System is experiencing a shortage of school bus drivers.  Last week, the school system posted a notice to parents that “due to an extreme shortage of bus drivers”, some routes were running behind and that students would be arriving home later than normal.

Chattooga County Board of Education Chairman Eddie Elsberry told WZQZ News this past week that there is always a shortage of drivers, but recently there have been other factors that have made the problem worse.

One longtime bus driver passed away recently and and a hospitalization also added to the issue of bus driver shortages.   Elsberry said that the school system has had a hard time finding additional bus drivers.

Anyone interested in becoming a bus driver may contact Dawn Campbell, the Chattooga County School System Human Resources Director at 706-859-3043.
