A fire on Chamberlain Road in southern Walker County destroyed the home of Kristy Colbert, a teacher at Summerville Middle School who runs a wildlife sanctuary called Possumbilities.
Colbert expressed her heartbreak, stating, “My house just burned to the ground. I lost tons of supplies and a few animals. ” The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Possumbilities is a state-licensed facility in Georgia that rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. The fire has displaced Colbert and her family and significantly hindered the sanctuary’s operations. The community is coming together to support Colbert and Possumbilities. Immediate needs have been identified, and the public is encouraged to help. The urgent requirements include clothing for Kristy and her family, as well as animal supplies like goat milk, heavy whipping cream, miracle nipples, water, produce, and Greek yogurt.
Monetary donations can be sent via Venmo to Kristy-colbert1. The community is asked to keep Colbert and her family in their thoughts and prayers.
