One of Chattooga County’s remaining World War II veterans will celebrate her 104th birthday this October.  A local resident is asking members of the community to send cards to Mrs. Jackson.

U.S Army Lt. Rose Jackson served from 1942 to 1946 as a nurse in the European Theater.  In all she served in six campaigns in Europe

Lt. Jackson has related the story of her service in World War II to WZQZ in past interviews.  She was one of about twenty nurses that came onshore in France on June 10, 1944 – just four days after the D-Day invasion that sent the Nazis into retreat as the Allied forces liberated France.

A native of Kansas, Lt. Jackson met her husband in a field hospital and after the war they married and she became a resident of Chattooga County.  She and her husband operated a store in Lyerly for many years.  Lt. Jackson has been a faithful member of Lyerly United Methodist Church for many years.

Local resident Brandon Gurley is hoping to get 104 cards to deliver to Rose Jackson on her special day.
