A 100-year-old log cabin is being re-constructed on the grounds of the March House in nearby LaFayette. The cabin reportedly represents slave quarters that once stood on the pre-civil war estate. The historic home was purchased several years ago by Walker County government and is open to the public for tours and special events. The log structure being erected was donated for the project. It was originally located off East Broomtown Road, just South of LaFayette. The cabin was taken down a couple of years ago and the logs were in storage. The cabin will need a new roof, for which the Marsh House Task Force is raising funds. The cabin will be raised in time for this year's Heritage Day on October 6. The chinking between the cabin's logs will probably done later with volunteer help.
