Long-time Chattooga County Sheriff Ralph Kellett will be laid to rest today.  Kellett served as Sheriff for 17 years.  He was appointed to the job in 1991 after Gary McConnell was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to run the state emergency management agency.  Kellett went on to serve in the office until 2008, when he was defeated in the Democratic Primary.

Ralph Kellett was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the United States Army.  He worked for many years at the local Ford Dealership in Summerville.  He was a member of the Summerville-Trion Rotary Club and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.  In 2006, Kellett was named "Democrat of the Year" by the Chattooga County Democratic Party.

Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters ordered the flags at the Chattooga County Courthouse to be flown at half-staff until Friday in honor of the late-sheriff.  The funeral will be held this afternoon at the South Summerville Baptist Church at 2 PM.
