In response to the storm damage that occurred at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park during the storms April 27, the park is closing the Lookout Mountain Battlefield trail system to conduct clean-up operations.

Superintendent Cathleen Cook has issued a temporary closure of all trails within the Lookout Mountain Battlefield unit of the park with the following exceptions:

· Point Park and the connector trail to the Ochs Museum

· Upper Truck Trail

· Rifle Pit Trail from the Ochs Museum to the Cravens House

The closure of the Lookout Mountain Battlefield trails will reduce the potential for visitor injury from falling trees and other trail hazards. This action will provide protection for visitors and allow for damage assessment and tree removal to be conducted more effectively.

Access to the trails will be limited to authorized individuals involved in trail clean-up operations.

This closure is effective May 13, and will continue until the trails are safe for public access.
