What a difference a year makes.  Last year, in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses were closing and unemployment was increasing.  This year, the month of March saw unemployment fall to a historic low in Northwest Georgia.  The region’s unemployment rate stands at a very low 3.3%.

“We had another strong month in March,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw the unemployment rate drop, along with an increase in jobs across the state, and most importantly, a decrease in over-the-year initial claims for every region.”

In Chattooga County the unemployment dropped six-tenths of a percentage point to 4.7% for March of this year.
