The Lyerly Town Council met on Tuesday of this week and voted to table new internal control policies put in place by Mayor Jessica Eller. Mayor Eller said that she instituted the policies on the recommendation of the town’s auditor. The policy that is in question would not allow any Lyerly Town Council member in the Town Clerk’s office.
At the meeting this week Council Member Robert Thompson said that last week’s discussion made it sound like money was missing from the Town of Lyerly, and he wanted to clarify that is not the case. Council Member Josh Wyatt asked that the policy come before the council to be reviewed and Council Member Ellen Wyatt agreed that controls are needed but should not make it where people can’t perform their duties. Thompson added that he uses the clerk’s office for Fire Department matters.
The council voted to "put the policy on hold" until it could be reviewed and approved by council members.
