It has been over 23 years since the Town of Lyerly has had a police department.  Since 1988 there has been no municipal police department in Lyerly.  On Tuesday of this week Mark Borgshulze proposed adding a police force for the Town of Lyerly. 

Borgshulze told the town council that Lyerly had over 1,000 calls to Chattooga County 911 in 2010 and that with the addition of a liquor store in Lyerly a police force should be considered.  He presented a package to the council detailing his proposal.

Borgshulze has worked in law enforcement for many years.  He ran unsuccesfuly for Chattooga County Sheriff against former Sheriff Ralph Kellett and lost in the Democratic Primary several years ago.
