Summerville Police were recently assisting Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies at a checkpoint inside the city limits of Summerville.  Officers were concerned about a driver who pulled up at the checkpoint and appeared to be under the influence.

As officers spoke with the driver, he told them that he had a “sip of beer” – but officers saw empty mini-bottles of whiskey and Kentucky bourbon inside the vehicle.  After speaking with the man further, officers say that he admitted to smoking some marijuana that day.  Officers eventually turned up a crystal-like substance that they believed to be methamphetamine.

Police arrested sixty-year-old Johnny Wayne Cook of Lyerly and charged him with possession of illegal drugs and booked him into the Chattooga County Jail.
