A Lyerly man has been sentenced to six months in prison in connection with a summer incident that involved a reckless attempt to evade law enforcement on a motorcycle.

John Levi Sneed, 31, was sentenced in Chattooga County Superior Court after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from the event that took place on June 13th. According to court documents, a deputy had attempted to pull over Sneed after noticing that his motorcycle lacked a license plate. Rather than comply, Sneed accelerated and tried to escape, leading the deputy on a pursuit. The chase ended abruptly when Sneed lost control of the motorcycle and crashed in a curve near the trash dump on Lyerly Dam Road.

Following the accident, Sneed fled the scene on foot, prompting a search by law enforcement. Concerned for their son’s safety, Sneed’s parents arrived at the crash site and informed deputies that he was the driver. They expressed worries that he might be seriously injured. Law enforcement officials located Sneed shortly thereafter at Bishop’s Trailer Park on Highway 114. Reports indicate that Sneed’s wife admitted to picking him up and transporting him home in an attempt to evade the authorities.

At the time, Sneed was charged with several offenses, including fleeing and attempting to elude police, obstruction of law enforcement, and leaving the scene of an accident.
