A Lyerly woman arrested for shoplifting at the West Rome Walmart is now facing a series of felony charges after authorities say she attempted to bring drugs into the Floyd County Jail.

According to warrants and jail reports, 44-year-old Elizabeth Marie Gunnells was taken into custody on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge and transported to the jail for booking.

Once inside the facility, officers reported discovering a glass pipe and suspected methamphetamine concealed inside her bra. Investigators say the drugs were hidden in an attempt to avoid detection during the intake process. Because the contraband made it past the secure perimeter of the jail, Gunnells is now charged with possession of methamphetamine, crossing the guard line with drugs, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug-related objects.

She was being housed at the Floyd County Jail as the case moves forward, and additional charges may be considered depending on lab results and the ongoing investigation
