When someone calls you and says you won something and all you have to do to collect your prize and/or money, is pay some sort of “fee” – it’s a scam.  Pure and simple.

A Lyerly resident recently reported to law enforcement that someone had been calling over and over from “Kingston” telling her she had won two cars and cash money.

She said she told the man not to call back – however after returning from church, she found yet another message on her answering machine from the same individual.

We attempted to call the number listed in the Incident Report, and, as is almost always the case, our call would not go through.  Most scam calls are routed through different locations making it almost impossible to contact them or even determine where they’re calling from; the vast majority of these calls come from outside the U.S.

The woman did the right thing by cutting off contact with these individuals and once you do that, they’ll move on to someone else.

The same woman also reported to officers that she had noticed several “pry” marks located on the back door of the home.  Deputies examined the door and found that the framing had been broken, however the window in the door had not been damaged.

The estimated value of the damage was listed at $200.

That matter remains under investigation.
