A seventy-six-year-old man who was arrested for child molestation last week has had prior sexual offences on his record.
Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News last week that James Bowen Sumner was arrested and charged with child molestation after he inappropriately touched a child under the age of twelve. The sheriff said that Sumner had a previous arrest on charges of sexual battery.
That incident happened back in 2011 when Sumner pleaded guilty to inappropriate sexual contact with an adult female. In that instance, Sumner received just a year of probation.
The Summerville News reported this week that Sumner only served two days of his probation when his sentence was reduced by former Chattooga County State Court Judge Sam Finster.
Sumner is currently out of jail on a $30,000 property bond with the condition that he cannot be in contact with any child under the age of 16.
