A fifty-year-old man was jailed last week after trying to outrun law enforcement on Highway 100 in a chase that originated in Chattooga County and reached speeds of 120 miles-per-hour and ended in Floyd County.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol on Highway 100 noticed a black Corvette speeding and recognized the vehicle as one that had been pulled over the day before by the same deputy.

The deputy attempted to pull the Corvette over, but the driver accelerated refused to stop.

When the chase reached the intersection of Highway 20 in Floyd County, the driver of the Corvette headed west on Highway 20 and once again reached speeds of 120 miles-per-hour.  Then, according to report, the driver suddenly began to slow down and came to a stop near Fosters Bend Road SW.

Eric Allan Smith was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain a single lane and defective equipment and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
